Confessions #2

Today has been one of...those days.  I can't even.  So I'm sitting down to write it away, ha!  This confession post is long overdue, as the last one was back in August!

We've been having issues with bugs.  I mean, we live in a wooded area so I expect that, but I didn't....ahem...expect that when we moved in.  I've never lived in a wooded area before I didn't realize how inviting our homes are to the outside creatures.

Today, I found a drawer full of cockroach poop.  Yep.  Cockroach poop.  And the bug guy already came last week because I found cockroach poop under my couch.  Oh, and he came the week before that for our "annual spring visit".  And the real kicker?  I left it for my husband to clean up.  I AM NOT CLEANING UP COCKROACH POOP.

So, this isn't a cockroach, but I'm pretty sure they have similar looks on their faces when they realize I found their poop stash. #sonotcool

I got docked 15 points on a grad school assignment because I met ALL of the criteria and was very thorough...but I met it "too soon".  What??? Is that even a real thing??  I'm ready for my one week off before my next set of classes begin, ha!

I started Isagenix and everyone I know is all, "oh, I love the ionix! It's the best thing ever!"  And I'm all plugging my nose and trying to chug it really fast because as Hadley says, "that's mommy's poop water." Hahahaha.  (Just for the record, it doesn't make me poop.  It's just brown and nasty looking so that's where she got the nickname for it.)

And cleanse days are for the birds.  I have two toddlers, I need food.  And yet I continue to cleanse.  Although, I will say I feel tons better, don't need 3 cups of coffee to get me through the day anymore and while I haven't noticed a huge decrease in the weight, my body is physically changing.

Moms are the greatest thing on earth.  Hadley got herself in trouble today and knew it.  I walked into the room and she immediately said, "I'm so sorry, Mommy.  It's all my fault."  And started crying.  I had to be the tough guy and send her to time-out, but then immediately called my mom bawling like a baby because how can my little girl feel such guilt???  I don't want her to feel that way.  My mom was quick to remind me that it's perfectly fine for her to feel guilt over something she has done because she knows she was wrong.  It's much better for her to feel remorseful than feel she's done nothing wrong.

My mom and me (or is that Griffin? ;) )

I wore shorts for the first time this season the other day and my husband goes, "I can't even see the hair on your thighs!"  .....Thanks?  (I have blonde hair so I don't shave past my knees during the winter months....am I the only one?  Also, I'm married so he just has to deal, haha!) But, I did shave before I put shorts on, so jokes on him.

Shew, I'm ready for a new day!

An Update

It's been a few weeks since I've had time to post anything so I thought I'd get started with a little update.  What have we been up to?

- School started back for me pretty quickly in the new year and this is taking up the bulk of my time away from blogging.  This semester is all about health policy and leadership and with our newly elected President and his ....unique.... leadership style and policy changes, you can imagine how crazy things have been.  I spend a lot of time researching, reading, writing discussion questions and quite honestly, the last thing I want to do is sit down and write some more!

- We did enjoy a "snow" day earlier this month.  They were calling for 6-8 inches and it slowly dwindled down to "well you might get something."  I don't generally tell my kiddos anything until the day of because there is always the chance plans will change.  I didn't tell Hadley about the snow until the day it was supposed to snow and at 2pm that day is when they changed how many inches we were getting....GGRRR.  We went to bed with no snow and I just knew Hadley was going to be so disappointed the next morning.  Thankfully, the ice stuck and we ended up with half an inch of snow on top and that was enough for her.  She woke up and said, "Mommy, you were right!  It DID snow!!"  So, I'm still "right" for a little while longer. :)

-We also celebrated a Clemson Tiger Victory in the National Championship game!  David and I stayed up to watch (we were still snowed in so no one had to go to work, score!)  We accidentally woke Hadley up with all of our hollering and jumping around, so she got in on the fun, too.  It was pretty fun getting to share that moment with her!  We also went to the Champions Parade in Clemson the next Saturday and I'm so very glad we did.  It was so much fun.  They had major mediocre seasons while David and I were there, so seeing them come out on top has been so sweet.

-We were snowed in Monday and by Friday we were playing at the park in 70 degree, sunny weather.  I'd be fine if every winter was just like this.  One couple days of snow and then back to the warm weather!

-In my spare time (haha) I've been doing some serious crafting!  I have found it actually helps me relax and I enjoy making stuff.  Here are a few of my projects:

I don't have an Etsy shop (because who has time for that with school, raising babies, keeping house, etc??), but I do sell things, so if you see something you like, just shoot me an e-mail. :)

-And mostly, I've been spending a lot of time with my kids.  They are growing way too fast and I love it and hate it.  Time is cruel, friends! ;)

I'm hoping to be a lot more regular around here again now that I'm getting into a routine.  Looking forward to catching up with everyone else, too! :)

Five on Friday

Whew, I've done a slew of "link-up" posts lately and it's exciting to connect to other people, but I also want to make sure I'm documenting my days because my kids might want to read this someday (yeah, right!) and I'm sure they don't want to read all about what we ate! (Although, after recently talking to my mom, I can only remember like 4 meals she made when I was growing up, haha!)  But it's Friday so I am linking up with April for another Five on Friday post:

ONE
My grandparents came Wednesday (H&G's great-grandparents!) and loved on my kiddos (and me!).  None of our family live here, but they live close enough to make day trips and I always love when they do.  It makes me so happy that my babies get to experience great-grandparents who are still so active! They get to love and be loved by my people and that is very dear to my heart!

TWO
I loathe group work.  Make it online group work and I loathe it even more.  I'm an overachiever and I like to get things done.  We are smack in the middle of some "group" work for our doctorate program and I volunteered to put all the info together for our final presentation and when asking for feedback from the group....[crickets]

I mean, what is up with that?? You are getting the highest level degree for your career and you can't turn in your work in a timely manner???  Ah, my anxiety is through the roof.

THREE
I'm doing a joint birthday party for my babes this year.  I'm thinking it may be the only year I can pull this off, but invitations went out yesterday so I need to get my butt into party-planning gear!  Hubs is very handy with computer stuff and he made the invitations to my specifications.  We are having a "sprinkle" themed party because Hadley is really in to adding sprinkles to everything.  And that seemed pretty gender neutral to me.

*David made this for us because he's creative, but a similar one can be found here on Etsy
FOUR
I'm looking for a dress for some fall weddings/christmas parties/etc. we have coming up.  Surprisingly, we haven't had many fall weddings recently and I have no fall wedding attire (that fit post-baby bodies!).  Here are some I've narrowed it down to.  I had originally planned for a navy dress because I'm blonde-haired and blue-eyed, but this mulberry dress is kind of calling out to me!  What do you think?

FIVE
I am so ready for tomorrow!  We are headed to Clemson for the big game!  It will be nice to be back on my home turf, see some familiar and loved faces, and watch the game.  The last game we went to was two years ago and Hadley wouldn't sit still.  I had to take her to the stadium entrance/concession stand area and let her run around.  I missed pretty much the whole game, but the police officers sure were entertained by her! *No children will be accompanying us on this trip!*

Happy weekend, friends!  And Go Tigers!!

Back to School!

This week was Hadley's first week back to pre-school!  I started her in the 1k-2k class last year before Griffin was born so she would get used to it before he came and more importantly, so I could get some down time before little man showed up!

She loved school so much, hubs and I made the decision to send her through the summer.  Because that's what working people do, right?  I mean I work super part-time as it is, but having those few hours of time to actually get things done became invaluable.  She loved it, I loved it.  Win-win.  This girl is way ahead of the game between her and other kids her age, so when summer session rolled around, she got bumped up to the next class.  (Thankfully, her bestie got bumped up with her!) I was a little sad about this because I hadn't realized she was movin' on up and didn't have her teacher gifts ready. (Priorities, y'all...) So, all of this to say: she's been in the 2k-3k class since June, but summer school doesn't count in my book, so....

Tuesday was Hadley's First Day of 2K!!

I was able to bribe her with a lollipop for some very cute "first day of school" pictures.

And of course, little bro had to get in on the picture action.

Last year, I worked on the yearbook staff (preschool yearbooks are actually a thing.) for Hadley's school, so they asked me if I would make a poster and greet new parents on Tuesday.  I don't have enough going on, so I said, "sure!", made a poster that none of the pre-schoolers could read, and had fun meeting all the new faces!

And for inquiring minds: Hadley goes to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Next year, I will bump her up to three days a week.  It's "half-day" from 9-1.
