Weekend Round-Up

It's Monday.  It is so hard for me to get up on Mondays!  I was telling David just last night that getting up at 5:30 SUCKS and it sucks even more because I don't really have to get up at 5:30, I just choose to.  It's not like I have a j.o.b. to get to.  But if I want to get anything at all accomplished during the day then I do, indeed, have to get up at 5:30--and could probably stand to get up at 4:30, but I'm not quite ready for that.  And being a parent and stay-at-home mom to 2 toddlers is a full-time job in my book.

Anyway.  Mondays always have me in a funk, so I thought I'd reminisce about some of the fun we had this weekend!  And this particular Monday isn't your typical one; it's probably one of the best because a) it's halloween!  How about some candy and really cute dressed-up kids to brighten your Monday blues?  b) it's ringing in the holiday season!  That's right folks, tomorrow is November 1st and I count that as officially holiday season around here.  Lots of fun things happening on our calendar the next few weeks, so there is excitement in the air.

Also for those keeping track, I finally finished "A Prayer For Owen Meany".  Good, good book.  It was long and I have very little time to read.  But I finished and I count that as a win!

So, this weekend:

Hadley's school pictures came in and I'm just beside myself.  I know I'm biased, but she has got to be the cutest thing on this planet.  I mean, can you stand it?

I also, found the kids in the bathroom like this:

I tried to stop it, but it was too late--so then I just went with it!  They had fun splashing around in the water, getting to do something they know is "probawwy" (per Hadley) against the rules, and they were playing nicely together.

Saturday was filled with errands.  We went all over tarnation looking for some area rugs for our rooms.  I haven't quite been able to bring myself to buying rugs from West Elm, etc. online without seeing it in person.  Our house is really, really dark.  We have a lot of trees outside which keeps everything shaded (yay!) but it also keeps the natural light from coming in.  A lot of our furniture is dark, so it's just made for a really dark home and I find myself brooding about it.  We aren't changing the furniture anytime soon, so I've been on the hunt to lighten things up a bit.  Insert area rugs.

We bought 2 awesome rugs this weekend and we are so pleased!  This one is upstairs in our bedroom:

I'm wanting a "french country" theme up there and I think this rug fits perfectly.  We are on the hunt for a new duvet cover, etc. but the rug looks really nice in the master.  For all of you locals- we got it at Michael's Wholesale Flooring.  They were helpful, not pushy (I hate going into stores and having people on my back the entire time I'm there), and professional.  We've already said we'll be going back there for our stair runner at some point!

We also got this rug from Homegoods for our family room:

We love it.  Even Hadley and Griffin find reasons to just go in the room and walk on it.  Things are slowly coming together in our "new home (that we've been in since May...!)

We rounded out our weekend by carving a pumpkin.  Better late than never, eh?  Griffin was interested until he saw the pumpkin guts and then he was done.  Bless his fear-of-texture heart.

I love this picture: Hadley is saying "Ewww!" and Griffin is trying to figure out what's in the pumpkin!

Pumpkin guts!

This is pretty much how Griffin felt about pumpkin guts.

Hadley was so excited she got to use the "saw" by herself "like a big girl!"

And Griffin spent time in the cabinets!

Happy Halloween, friends!

5 on Friday

I'm not sure why, but this week seemed to drag for me.  I'm a worrier and I was worried a lot about all kinds of insignificant things so I am glad to see Friday come!  This week's 5 on Friday is just a bunch of random stuff to round out the week.  Happy weekend!

1. This is big.  Hadley slept in her bed last night....AND....Griffin slept all night!  You might remember this post I wrote about some battles we've been having.  Since we moved, Hadley has been getting in our bed every single night.  That's about 5 months of having an extra body snuggling in our bed!  And bless his heart, Griffin is 11 1/2 months old and hasn't slept through the night until now!  The fact that they both did this the same night can only be described as a gift from the Lord himself.

2. We have plans to go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow.  I even made my kids matching shirts.  I'm feeling a little nostalgic because last year when we took Hadley- I went into labor with Griffin.  But Hurricane Matthew is putting a damper on those plans.  We are just expected to get some rain, but I was really looking forward to it.  Small pill to swallow compared to the devastation Matthew is bestowing on the coast, but I'm still bummed!

3. Wednesday was the funeral for a little boy, Jacob Hall, who was killed during an elementary school shooting in Townville, SC a week ago.  He really loved superheroes, so his parents requested everyone dress up like superheroes that day.  We live near (like 45 min- 1 hour away) there, so Facebook and Instagram have been blowing up with pictures of their kids all dressed up.  We went nowhere and did nothing Wednesday (my favorite kind of day!) but my two did play superheroes!  It's incredible to see the community come together to support this family, but I'm just so angry that it takes the death of a 6 year old boy to do so.

4. This guy has a birthday on Sunday!  He celebrated his big 3-0 last year, so this birthday is small potatoes. ;)  But we still plan to celebrate him!  We sure are thankful for the good husband and Daddy that he is, so the day is going to be all about him!

5. I'm finally starting to try to decorate our new house.  We definitely need paint on the walls, but I've been looking at curtains for our big floor-to-ceiling windows in our formal living room (aka the craft/office room).  I think I really like the look of this:

I also need something for our kitchen windows and was thinking something like this would look good in there:

What do you think??

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
