Anyway. Mondays always have me in a funk, so I thought I'd reminisce about some of the fun we had this weekend! And this particular Monday isn't your typical one; it's probably one of the best because a) it's halloween! How about some candy and really cute dressed-up kids to brighten your Monday blues? b) it's ringing in the holiday season! That's right folks, tomorrow is November 1st and I count that as officially holiday season around here. Lots of fun things happening on our calendar the next few weeks, so there is excitement in the air.
Also for those keeping track, I finally finished "A Prayer For Owen Meany". Good, good book. It was long and I have very little time to read. But I finished and I count that as a win!
So, this weekend:
Hadley's school pictures came in and I'm just beside myself. I know I'm biased, but she has got to be the cutest thing on this planet. I mean, can you stand it?
I also, found the kids in the bathroom like this:
I tried to stop it, but it was too late--so then I just went with it! They had fun splashing around in the water, getting to do something they know is "probawwy" (per Hadley) against the rules, and they were playing nicely together.
Saturday was filled with errands. We went all over tarnation looking for some area rugs for our rooms. I haven't quite been able to bring myself to buying rugs from West Elm, etc. online without seeing it in person. Our house is really, really dark. We have a lot of trees outside which keeps everything shaded (yay!) but it also keeps the natural light from coming in. A lot of our furniture is dark, so it's just made for a really dark home and I find myself brooding about it. We aren't changing the furniture anytime soon, so I've been on the hunt to lighten things up a bit. Insert area rugs.
We bought 2 awesome rugs this weekend and we are so pleased! This one is upstairs in our bedroom:
I'm wanting a "french country" theme up there and I think this rug fits perfectly. We are on the hunt for a new duvet cover, etc. but the rug looks really nice in the master. For all of you locals- we got it at Michael's Wholesale Flooring. They were helpful, not pushy (I hate going into stores and having people on my back the entire time I'm there), and professional. We've already said we'll be going back there for our stair runner at some point!
We also got this rug from Homegoods for our family room:
We love it. Even Hadley and Griffin find reasons to just go in the room and walk on it. Things are slowly coming together in our "new home (that we've been in since May...!)
We rounded out our weekend by carving a pumpkin. Better late than never, eh? Griffin was interested until he saw the pumpkin guts and then he was done. Bless his fear-of-texture heart.
I love this picture: Hadley is saying "Ewww!" and Griffin is trying to figure out what's in the pumpkin!
Pumpkin guts!
This is pretty much how Griffin felt about pumpkin guts.
Hadley was so excited she got to use the "saw" by herself "like a big girl!"
And Griffin spent time in the cabinets!
Happy Halloween, friends!
A Prayer for Owen Meany is such a good book! I read it in AP English in high school and it is just one of those books that stays with you. So good! I love both of your new rugs. I have seen some great ones at Homegoods recently, too, but we don't need any more currently. I'm sure your French country bedroom will be so relaxing. I love that style.
